History Of The School
Saints Peter and Paul was opened in Easter 1976, originally as a two-form entry Infant School with a Nursery Department, to serve the Parish of Saints Peter and Paul.
Opening of the original school: Canon and Mullen and Archbishop Warlock bless the crosses in 1976
In 1983 the school became a one-form entry Primary school. The Nursery had always been regarded as being for the whole of Saints Peter and Paul Parish - though children who live near English Martyrs who attended the Nursery previously transferred to the Infant Department of English Martyrs at the appropriate time.
When English Martyrs closed, there was a huge amount of equipment for us to move and sort
In July 1998, English Martyrs school
closed, with children from our sister school transferring to Saints Peter and
Paul’s in September. The intake number was increased from 35 to 48,
effectively making Saints Peter and Paul’s School one and a half form entry.
To accommodate the extra numbers in the short term, temporary portable
classrooms were erected on the edge of the Junior playground. New teaching staff were appointed to
teach the extra classes created. Re – Building Work:
A major building programme costing approximately £550,000 started in January 1999 to create 5 new classrooms to accommodate permanently the extra pupils joining our school. Additionally, other vital re-modelling increased the amount of hall space, improved cloak room facilities and improved the entrance and administration areas.
